Nike has built a special track shoe to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Bannister’s record. For ideas, the company has tapped Hicham el Guerrouj, the Moroccan world-record holder who in 1999 ran the fastest-ever mile in 3 minutes and 43.13 seconds. Nike designed the Zoom Miler for him. The shoe is built specifically for running sub-4-minute miles. It’s the lightest track spike, weighing just 4.5 ounces.

Although the shoe was designed for el Guerrouj he didn’t wear the production spike plate in the Olympics for the 5k or the 1500. His version featured a slightly modified plate seen in the photos with the shark skin heel extending to the mid foot. The soles on both the pairs are all white vs the production version which was mostly black.
